Welcome to the website of Wim Stroman..

Here is a summary in English..

Wim Stroman, was born in Amsterdam in 1952. Inspired by the well known Organist Piet van Egmond, as a child, he was already interested in Organs.

At the age of 12 he met the organist of a small Mennonite Church in Purmerend, ( a town 12 kilometres North of Amsterdam ), with its organ built by the Dutch Organ Builder Witte in 1864. As a young boy he regularly played this instrument.

During his Organ Study with his teachers, Haite van der Schaaf and Bernard Winsemius, Wim became one of the Organists of the Amsterdam Church of St.Francis Xavier, locally better known as " De Krijtberg", sometimes even named "The Amsterdam Cathedral", a position he still holds to this day.

In the year 2000 Wim also became organist of the Nicolas Church, known as The Dome Church, in the Cheese Market at the centre of Purmerend,, At this Church during the Summer period he has organised Concerts on Saturday Afternoons. You can find details of these Concerts on the main menu under CONCERT DATA.

AMSTERDAM CHURCH OF St. FRANCIS XAVIER / "DE KRIJTBERG"
The present Neo Gothic building of 1883 replaced an older and much smaller Church. A lot of pipework from The Batz-Organ of that Church was used in the new Organ, built by the Dutch Organ Builder Adema in 1904, this instrument had pneumatic action. In the 1990s the organ was rebuilt and relocated in the restored Church. This Organs traction is now electric, recently there has been the addition of a computer with a memory facility for operating the stops.

You will find all the details of this Organ On the main menu for: ADEMAORGEL KRIJTBERG or on the menu for FOTO'S as #Adema orgel in de Kerk de Krijtberg

PURMEREND
The Dome Church (in Dutch: Koepel Kerk) in the town centre of Purmerend was built in 1853, (named Groote Kerk) and replaced a much older Gothic Church, built in 1530.
The organ built by Rudolphe Garrels from 1739 to 1742 was removed from the old Gothic Church , and was rebuilt in the new Dome Church by the Organ Builders Flaes en Brunjes in 1853. The Protestant Church named Groote Kerk remained in service until 1971, when it closed and became a Theatre Hall. The Garrels Organ was removed from the Building in 1976 by the Organ Builder Flentrop and stored at their premises until 2001.
In 1990 the Church was inaugurated again, as the Roman Catholic Parish of St.Nicolas. Around the same time this was happening , The Mennonite Church of Purmerend closed down and the Witte Organ from this Church was relocated in the Dome Church which had been without an Organ since the removal of the Garrels Organ in 1976.
In 2001 the Organ Builder Flentrop started the restoration of the Garrels Organ and these works were completed and the totally rebourn organ was inaugurated in 2003. The small Batz Chamber Organ had been in use in the Church as a Choir Organ from 1962 to 1971 was returned to its home in 2003. So today there are three Organs in what is now named the Nicolas Church.
With two Organists: # Jan Jongepier as Titular Organist of the Garrels Organ.
                              # Wim Stroman as Titular Organist of the Roman Catholic Parish.
